Master's
Language: EnglishStudies in English
Subject area: biology
Kind of studies: full-time studies
  • Description:

  • pl

A graduate of the IInd level of studies has a good knowledge of the basis of sciences and in-depth knowledge regarding biological processes occurring on a molecular level, as well as specialised subjects covered by this curriculum. This knowledge enables describing, explaining and exploiting various biological processes. A graduate of this Master’s programme is prepared to work in the area of:

  • directed genetic modification of microorganisms and cells of higher organisms,
  • directing of processes of biosynthesis and biotransformation,
  • analysis of intracellular processes,
  • isolation and purification of bioproducts,
  • medical diagnostics.

The graduates are well prepared to work in research and development institutions, and – depending on a chosen specialisation – in laboratories focused on medicine, pharmacology, environmental protection and agriculture.

Biotechnology
Biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products, or "any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use" (UN Convention on Biological Diversity, Art. 2). Depending on the tools and applications, it often overlaps with the (related) fields of bioengineering, biomedical engineering, biomanufacturing, molecular engineering, etc.
Molecular Biotechnology
Molecular Biotechnology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Springer Science+Business Media. It publishes original research papers and review articles on the application of molecular biology to biotechnology. It was established in 1994 with John M. Walker as founding editor-in-chief. He was succeeded in 2011 by Giancarlo Basile.
